History:
History is taught using HBJ's, Our World, HRW's Texas Our Texas, and Prentice Hall's American Nation~ 2000. These programs are designed to be integrated learning experiences with personal meaning, thought provoking source readings, and accounts of events in history.

Science:
Science is hands-on and investigative in nature and many resources are used. Prentice Hall's Science Explorer, and National Research Council's standards are just some of the resources used. Students are exposed to "real" science through use of science equipment, chemistry and biology experiences, and physical science experiments.

P.E. / Outdoor Education:
Introduces students to sports they can participate in for the rest of their lives. Travel and competition between C. Brown and other Middle schools are also a part of this program. Tennis, Golf, Swimming, Volleyball, Archery, and Soccer are some of the sports to be explored.

Health:
Scott Foresman's Health for Life is a complete "Skills for Life" health book. Activities and text develop decision making skills, self-esteem building, goal setting, and coping skills along with growth and development, nutrition, fitness, personal care, consumerism, and health care services.

Computer:
Our students are using computers daily as a tool for creative writing, making presentations, compilation of data, publication of information and word processing. All systems utilize Microsoft Office plus teaching software. The library's computer has internet capabilities and students practice both technological and scientific skills using Weather Net. Middle School students also learn skills in PowerPoint, Hyperstudio, Internet Curriculum, and Microsoft Excel.

Band:
Band is offered to all Middle School students. The emphasis is on mastery of instrument, learning the elements of music, and experiences with a wide range of music. Performance skills and self analysis are also taught. Playing a musical instrument has been found to increase learning and raise academic testing scores.

Art:
Middle School Art moves from prehistoric art to impressionism, learning about elements of space design, form relationship, and more through working with different art mediums. Ceramics, weaving, painting, batik, and mosaics are just some of the projects presented during art. We also participate in national, local, and state competitions.
